Why I still start every job in gouache

Screens are fast, paint is honest. A few notes on why the first sketch is always on paper.

Thick gouache strokes in blue, red and pink

Paint first, pixels later

Every job I take starts with a tube of gouache and a cheap brush. Not because I am precious about it, but because paint does not let me undo. The first ten minutes are ugly and honest, and that honesty is usually where the idea is hiding.

Once a sketch feels right on paper I scan it, keep the grain, and only then open the tablet. The screen is for cleaning up, never for deciding.
