A mascot with manners

Bloom Market delivers fruit and veg to doors across Lisbon, and they wanted a character that felt like a friendly neighbour rather than a cartoon. We landed on Pip, a slightly round pear who is always a little bit late and always very polite.

Pip now lives on the boxes, the app and one very large van. The brief let me keep the lines loose and the colour loud, which is my favourite kind of brief.

my approach

From sketch to van

We tested Pip on every surface the brand owns: a tiny app icon, a delivery box, a bus shelter poster. The pear had to read at sixteen pixels and at four metres, so the shapes got simpler with every round.

The final sheet has six expressions, three poses and a short guide so the in house team can draw Pip into new campaigns without me.
